RIM has introduced BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) 6 Thursday. Being a staple of the BlackBerry experience, BBM is still a strong platform with 45 million users, 70% of whom use it daily. This latest iteration of BBM also expands a new social app layer to the messaging platform.
In terms of supported apps, consumers will be able to use various BBM specs within the app itself. For instance, while playing a game consumers can invite their BBM friends to join and continue to chat in real-time, all from within the app itself.
Some of the apps that will support BBM 6 include The Huffington Post, Foursquare, Wikitude, Telemap, Scoremobile and Poynt. BBM is continuously the crown jewel of the BlackBerry experience. Apple will be forging its own iOS-centric communications platform with iOS 5; however, BBM is in a class of its own now.
