With such great booming growth in the Internet, the two most popular social networking sites: Twitter and Facebook have become excellent tools for enterprises to promote its businesses.
From early this 2009, there is up to 250 percent increase of people who use Twitter to introduce about their company, sales and promotions. Facebookâs use is also on the way to grow with nearly 200 percent increase of companies using this social network. Besides that more and more workers are also reported to use such popular social network as promotional vehicles both with and without management knowledge.
However, besides benefits, such social networking sites also bring individuals and companies with security problems.
On one hand, these applications can help us do our jobs but on the other hand, enterprises should have a new approach to allow for shades of gray by enforcing appropriate application usage policies tailored for their workforce.
It can be seen clearly that Twitter and Facebook have become one of the most important activities of both individuals and businesses since one or more years ago.
In comparison with September 2008, Twitter has got 1,170 percent increase of visits whereas Facebook saw its already impressive market share increase by 194 percent, letting it easily maintain its recently attained place atop the U.S. social networking market.
However, for some reasons, it is the fact that companies have been cutting off access to both Twitter and Facebook in workplace despite their important role.
Most of the companies have banned workers from using social networking sites during working hours except for business purposes.
It is reported that if a company allow employees to use Facebook during working time, they may lose up to 1.5 percent of total employee productivity.
