It is reported from Japanese publication Weekly Famitsu that the web browser on Sony’s coming-generation portable gaming handset, the PlayStation Vita, will not support Adobe Flash at release. In stead, it will support cookies, HTML5, JavaScript 1.7. As a result, of course, it does not support Game Archives that consists of classic PlayStation One games. The lack of Flash support at release isn’t too surprising since Sony’s PSP did not support flash at first. However, that tablet did not get an upgrade to support Flash until over a year after it released. With the current anti-Flash movement, the Vita’s Flash support may appear slowly in the form of a firmware upgrade.
The PS Vita was initially introduced at E3 2011, sports a 5-inch touchscreen display as well as an additional touchpad control on the backside. The tablet also features dual analog sticks, dual cameras, GPS, Bluetooth, and WiFi. It is scheduled in Japan on December 17, releasing with 26 game titles, and will be launched in North America and Europe on February 22.
